2. Introduction

WordTracker is an app for managing and tracking writing projects, available for iOS, Android, and macOS. The protection of your personal data is important to us. This privacy policy informs you about the processing of your data when using our app.

3. Data Processing

3.1 Local Data Storage

WordTracker stores all your data primarily locally on your device. We collect and process the following data:

Writing Statistics: Word count, date and time of entries
Project Information: Project name, description, color, icon, goals
App Settings: Theme settings, notification settings
Premium Status: Information about in-app purchases or redeemed vouchers

Important: This data is stored primarily locally on your device. Transmission to external servers only occurs within the scope of the functions described below.

3.2 Cloud Synchronization (optional, Premium)

Depending on the platform, you can optionally sync your data to the cloud:

iOS/macOS – iCloud Sync:
If you have enabled iCloud for this app in your iOS or macOS settings, your data will be synchronized via your iCloud. This is subject to Apple’s privacy policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

All Platforms – Cloud API Sync (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive):
On iOS and macOS as an alternative or supplement to iCloud, and on Android as the primary cloud sync option, you can synchronize your data via one of the following cloud providers:

Google Drive: Sign in with your Google account. Your data is stored in a private app folder. Privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Dropbox: Sign in with your Dropbox account. Privacy policy: https://www.dropbox.com/privacy
OneDrive: Sign in with your Microsoft account. Privacy policy: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement

Only one cloud provider can be active at a time. Synchronization occurs automatically and includes all projects, entries, genres, and settings. When signing in, your email address and display name are stored locally and used to display the connected account. Authentication is handled via OAuth – your credentials are not stored in the app. Synchronization occurs exclusively between your own devices.

3.3 In-App Purchases

iOS: If you purchase premium features via in-app purchase, Apple processes payment data according to their privacy policy. We only receive an anonymous transaction confirmation.

Android: If you purchase premium features via Google Play, Google processes payment data. To verify the purchase, the following data is transmitted to our server (api.todisco.de):

App package name
Product ID
Purchase token
Device ID (Android ID)

This data is used exclusively to verify purchase entitlement.

3.4 Device ID (Android only)

On Android, the device ID (Android ID) is collected and used in the following cases:

Purchase verification: Transmitted to our server to verify premium purchases
Promo codes: Stored in Google Firestore to prevent multiple redemptions

The device ID is not used for tracking or advertising purposes.

3.5 Notifications

When you enable notifications, they are created locally on your device. No data is sent to external push services, as the app uses only local notifications.

3.6 Error Monitoring with Sentry

WordTracker uses Sentry (www.sentry.io) to detect and fix errors.

iOS: Error monitoring is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you in the settings (opt-in).

Android: Error monitoring is enabled by default. You can disable it at any time in the app settings (opt-out).

When active, the following data is transmitted to Sentry:

Error reports and app crashes
Performance data (load times, transactions)
Technical device information (device type, operating system version)
App version and time of error
Session data (app starts, session duration)
No personally identifiable information such as names, emails, or your writing data

You can disable Sentry at any time in the app settings. After deactivation, no further data will be transmitted.

3.7 OCR/Camera Function (iOS, Premium)

WordTracker offers the ability to photograph text and automatically count the words. Text recognition is performed entirely locally on your device using Apple’s Vision Framework. No images or recognized text are transmitted to external servers.

3.8 Automatic Backups (Premium)

WordTracker can create daily automatic backups of your data. These backups are stored locally in a folder of your choice on your device (CSV or JSON format). A maximum of 5 backups are retained; older ones are automatically deleted. No backup data is transmitted to external servers.

3.9 Feedback Function

When you contact us via the in-app feedback function, the following data is transmitted to our server (api.todisco.de):

Category, subject, and message
Platform (iOS/Android) and language setting
Timestamp
Optional: Email address (only if you provide it)
Optional: Device information (device model, operating system version, app version) – can be disabled via toggle

4. Legal Basis for Processing

The processing of your data is based on the following legal grounds:

Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (Contract fulfillment): Provision of app functions, purchase verification
Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (Consent): Optional activation of Sentry (iOS), cloud synchronization, feedback
Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR (Legitimate interest): Error monitoring for quality assurance (Android), fraud prevention for purchases

5. Data Sharing

Your data is not shared with third parties, with the following exceptions:

Apple: When using iCloud or in-app purchases (iOS/macOS)
Google: When using Google Drive Sync or Google Play purchases (iOS/macOS/Android)
Dropbox: When using Dropbox as cloud sync provider (iOS/macOS/Android)
Microsoft: When using OneDrive as cloud sync provider (iOS/macOS/Android)
Sentry: For error monitoring (when enabled)
Google Firestore: Storage of device ID for promo code redemption (Android)

6. Data Storage and Deletion

6.1 Storage Duration

Your data is stored locally on your device as long as you use the app. Cloud-synchronized data remains in your iCloud or Google Drive account until you delete it.

6.2 Deletion

You can delete your data at any time:

Individual Entries/Projects: Delete in the app
All Data: Uninstall the app from your device
Cloud Data (Android): Disconnect Google Drive Sync and uninstall the app
Cloud Data (iOS): Delete iCloud data in system settings
Export: Create a CSV or JSON export before deleting (Premium feature)
Account Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at https://todisco.de/en/wordtracker-support

Important: Upon uninstallation or device loss, local data (without cloud sync) is irretrievably lost. Please create regular backups.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights:

Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can request information about your stored data at any time
Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Correction of inaccurate data
Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Delete data directly in the app or request deletion via our support page
Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Use CSV or JSON export
Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR): Disable Sentry or cloud sync in settings
Right to Lodge a Complaint: With the competent data protection supervisory authority

8. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

Local storage under the security mechanisms of the respective operating system
Encrypted transmission of all data (TLS/HTTPS)
No transmission of writing data to our servers
Regular security updates of the app

9. No Profiling

There is no automated decision-making or profiling according to Art. 22 GDPR.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy to reflect changes in law or app features. The current version can always be found at:
