2. Introduction

WordTracker is an iOS app for managing and tracking writing projects. The protection of your personal data is important to us. This privacy policy informs you about the processing of your data when using our app.

3. Data Processing

3.1 Local Data Storage

WordTracker is a local app that stores all your data exclusively on your iOS device. We collect and process the following data:

Writing Statistics: Word count, date and time of entries
Project Information: Project name, description, color, icon, goals
App Settings: Theme settings, notification settings
Premium Status: Information about in-app purchases or redeemed vouchers

Important: This data is stored exclusively locally on your device and is not transmitted to external servers.

3.2 iCloud Sync (optional)

If you have enabled iCloud for this app in your iOS settings, your data will be synchronized via your iCloud. This is subject to Apple’s privacy policy:

We have no access to your iCloud data. Synchronization occurs exclusively between your own devices.

3.3 Apple StoreKit (In-App Purchases)

If you purchase premium features via in-app purchase, Apple processes payment data according to their privacy policy. We only receive an anonymous transaction confirmation, but no payment information.

3.4 Notifications

When you enable notifications, they are created locally on your device. No data is sent to external servers (including Apple Push Notification Service), as the app uses only local notifications.

3.5 Error Monitoring with Sentry (optional)

You can optionally enable error monitoring with Sentry to help us improve the app. This feature is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you in the settings.

When enabled, the following data is transmitted to Sentry (www.sentry.io):

Error reports and app crashes
Technical device information (device type, iOS version)
App version and time of error
No personally identifiable information such as names, emails, or your writing data

You can disable Sentry at any time in the app settings. After deactivation, no further data will be transmitted.

4. Legal Basis for Processing

The processing of your data is based on the following legal grounds:

Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b GDPR (Contract fulfillment): Provision of app functions
Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR (Consent): When optional activation of Sentry

5. Data Sharing

Your data is not shared with third parties, with the following exceptions:

Apple: When using iCloud or in-app purchases (according to Apple’s privacy policy)
Sentry: Only if you have explicitly enabled error monitoring

6. Data Storage and Deletion

6.1 Storage Duration

Your data is stored locally on your device as long as you use the app. You have full control over your data at all times.

6.2 Deletion

You can delete your data at any time:

Individual Entries/Projects: Delete in the app
All Data: Uninstall the app from your device
Export: Create a CSV export before deleting (Premium feature)

Important: Upon uninstallation or device loss, local data (without iCloud Sync) is irretrievably lost. Please create regular backups.

7. Your Rights

You have the following rights:

Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can request information about your stored data at any time
Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Correction of inaccurate data
Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Delete data directly in the app
Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Use CSV export
Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR): Disable Sentry in settings
Right to Lodge a Complaint: With the competent data protection supervisory authority

8. Data Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

Local storage under iOS security mechanisms
Encrypted transmission to Sentry (TLS)
No transmission of writing data to external servers
Regular security updates of the app

iOS Security: Your data benefits from iOS sandboxing and device encryption.

9. No Profiling

There is no automated decision-making or profiling according to Art. 22 GDPR.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy to reflect changes in law or app features. The current version can always be found at:
